Hey! So I'm p irked by the fact Hussie didn't ask for permission from the artist to use their art. What do you think?
I am upset about that too, legally speaking, he doesn’t have to ask because it is fanart for his creation, and maybe that was his reasoning, but I think he should’ve at least told he artist what he was going to do before he did it. There is a difference between legality and common decency.
Asking them and getting permission is always the best way to go about it in any situation, but the fact that he didn’t even add the artist’s name to the pages the design is used on really bothers me.
A lot of his diehard ( *cough* sheep) fans are trying to make excuses for him by saying “well that is the only picture he favorited on Caliborns DevArt” or “Caliborn is an art thief, it’s part of the character” but that doesn’t make it acceptable because this has gone further than the comic.
Speaking for myself, after I read the upd8 I never had the intention of going to the DevArt page itself and I’m sure many other readers feel the same. I only went a while after reading it out of boredom, I NEVER would’ve know that it was someone else’s design unless I had done that.
And if Hussie thinks that is a proper way to give credit then I don’t know what to think of him anymore. Credit should be given on the post or image where the content is posted. NO EXCUSES
We, as a fandom, really need to question him and call him out on this because I do feel like he is the kind of guy who will admit to this mistake and make it right if we bring it to his attention.
SO apparently Hussie added credit to the News section
That is not any better, this comic isn’t just going to vanish from the internet once it’s over. That credit is going to be buried under new news in the future and nobody is going to be seeing it anymore. THE CREDIT NEEDS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE PAGE IT IS USED ON
Hussie used a fan artist’s design in the actual Homestuck comic without proper credit and without the designer’s permission and we need to tell him that it is unacceptable.
